What the Percentage Calculator does

This is a quick math helper that answers the three percentage questions people actually look up. Type two numbers, Value X and Value Y, and it works out all three at once: what X percent of Y equals, what percent X is of Y, and the percentage change going from X to Y. Handy for students checking homework, shoppers sizing up a price drop, or anyone who would rather not wrestle with mental arithmetic.

How to use it

  1. In the Value X field, enter your first number (the default is 25).
  2. In the Value Y field, enter your second number (the default is 200).
  3. Press Calculate.
  4. Read the three results: X% of Y in big type, plus “X is what % of Y” and the percent change from X to Y.
  5. Change either number and calculate again to compare different scenarios.

If you leave a box empty the tool will ask you to fill in both values, so there are no silent wrong answers.

Why use this one

It runs entirely in your browser, so the numbers you type never leave your device and there is no waiting on a server. It is free, there is no sign-up, and it works the same on a phone, tablet or laptop. You get all three percentage answers from a single click instead of running three separate sums.

Reading the results

The first line, X% of Y, is the classic “what is 25% of 200” question (answer: 50). The second line flips it around to tell you what slice X is of Y. The third line measures growth or drop between the two figures, which is the one you want for price increases, score changes or before-and-after comparisons.

Tips

Order matters for percent change: X is treated as the starting point and Y as the new value, so a result with a minus sign means Y is smaller than X. For everyday math the answers are rounded to two decimals, which is plenty for budgets, grades and shopping, though it is general info rather than formal financial advice.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find what percent one number is of another?
Put the part in Value X and the whole in Value Y, then press Calculate. The second result line, 'X is what % of Y', gives the answer. For example X=50 and Y=200 shows 25%.
How does the calculator work out percentage change?
It treats Value X as the starting figure and Value Y as the new figure, then shows the change from X to Y as a percent. A negative result means Y is lower than X, so the value dropped.
Is the Percentage Calculator free and private?
Yes. It is completely free with no sign-up and no limits, and every calculation runs locally in your browser, so the numbers you enter never get uploaded anywhere.
Can I calculate a percentage of a number, like 15% of 80?
Yes. Enter 15 in Value X and 80 in Value Y, then press Calculate. The first, larger result, '15% of 80', shows 12.
